The result of a great deal of hard protesting and petitioning leads to the BBC’s much appreciated online radio station BBC6 Music being saved from closure for now. It demonstrates (literally) the peoples voice is stronger than the financial recession depression as it survived what was initially a large cut Mark Thompson, the Director-General was due to make after the huge television establishment was expanding at a pace too fast to fund aswell as give competitors fairer sharer of online airspace. With the deserved attention brought to the plight of the station more new listeners tuned in bringing an audience growth of nearly 50% a week. In a short television interview after the news was annouced Jarvis Cocker commented “I punched the air……It provides an outlet for music that otherwise wouldn’t be heard”. A station that prides itself on concentrating on the music, rather than being consumed by morning mavericks, its presenters such Lauren Laverne and Steve Lamacq applaud all new music in its enteriety and variety, John Peel would be proud at the arrival of this welcomed decision.
