By now most of you will have seen Pixar’s newest animated flick “Up” and if you haven’t what are you doing reading this – go watch it now – OK wait, read this first, then go watch it! Anyway, with Toy Story 3 due next summer, it’s the perfect time to reminisce over some of the greatest moments that Pixar have provided us with over the years…
It’s not just the studio’s technical brilliance which set it apart from the rest but the lovable characters, it’s the great voice acting and amazing stories that they have created. Here’s a look back at some of the top animated moments – a word of warning before you proceed, the following may trigger a warm fuzzy feeling inside…
Toy Story – The Plan
With Woody and Buzz having fallen into the clutches of resident teenage toy torturer Sid Philips, the race is on to escape so that they can rejoin their owner Andy before he moves away. There is one little problem though as Buzz sees a toy commercial and becomes depressed upon realising that he is actually a toy. With the help of the mutant toys, Woody saves the day – Sid vs. Toys. There’s a snake in my boots…
Finding Nemo – The Escape
It isn’t bad enough that little Nemo is caught and placed in a fishtank, but said fishtank is also in a Dentist’s office. Talk about bad luck. Thankfully with the help of the other fish, Nemo managed to escape before he is offered up as a gift to a scary little girl…….Check out Nemo escaping. The little fish that could.
A Bug’s Life – The Warriors
Hero Flick goes leaves the safety of the colony to go out in search of warriors who will help the ants to fight off the grasshoppers. Unfortunately for Flick he mistakes some circus performers for heroes……Swish Swish, Clang Clang. Brilliant.
Toy Story 2 – The Story
Cowgirl Jesse has a moving flashback which explains why she is doesn’t want to ever be owned by a human again. A flashback expressed through the medium of song and a tear jerker.
Monsters Inc
This could actually be the most underrated Pixar flick on the list. The idea is amazing and is executed to perfection. I couldn’t really decide on my favourite bit so here’s a montage of Boo.
Bask in the cuteness.
Wall-E – The Budding Romance
All I have to say is that I need me an Eve…..The vid says it all - Wall-E ♥ Eve. Evaaaaaa.
Up – The Montage
Pixar’s latest offering provides yet more classic moments, none more so than the scene near the beginning of the film, simply known as “The Montage”. It doesn’t have any words and it’s the definitive example of telling a story through pictures. If this doesn’t pull on your heart strings, it’s because you don’t have one. Fact.
On a complete side note, I saw Toy Story again at the cinema and noticed something. Is it me or is Potato Head a bit of a [insert expletive here]?? Oh and feel free to share your favourite scenes….

I totally appreciate the run down here of the most recent of the Disney Pixar marriage – they have come out with some of the best animations in contemporary cinema. But I think you fail to mention the absolute timeless classics that are The Lion King (one of the top grossing animated feature films of the collections), Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid and Aladdin.
Forgive me if you were only commenting on the recent releases, but I think the ones I’ve listed built the foundations to what the legacy is known for. The stories, though all seemingly different, are actually recycles of simple and fundamental emotions: aspirations, losing a loved one, the search for the ultimate love, and acceptance. They tackle issues that are actually more complex than audiences fail to recognise which is a true shame. Though never perfect, which sparks a whole new conversation completely, what the animations do manage, is an escape for children and adults alike – something that everybody needs
P.S. “Up” is a brilliant movie, I agree! Go see it everyone!
