In theory I know what to do, eat healthy, and take regular exercise but due to boredom and laziness, that wasn’t happening. So in order to kick start me back into shape I did a detox at the BeautifulBreak for two weeks. Here’s how I got on.
My Health MOT
Before my detox could begin I had to undergo a full health MOT at a Harley Street clinic. This involved filling out my medical history, having a blood test, producing a sample and being weighed twice. Once for my weight and again on a separate machine that actually calculates how much fat is in your body. I was measured (I’m actually 1inch taller than I thought I was) and my BMI was taken. For my final test I had to blow into a tube to check that my lungs were ok.
After the nurse confirmed that my sample was fine, my health MOT was done. I was now ready to begin my BeautifulBreak detox.
The BeautifulBreak Detox
Day one of my detox started with my first thermal body wrap. I was covered up in a cold blanket together with four heating pads and left alone to relax. My therapist did come to check on me every 20 minutes, to make sure I was o.k. How long you stay, depends on how comfortable you feel in the wrap. The first time I had it done I stayed for 1hour 5minutes and used four heating pads.
I had five wraps during my first week and after each wrap, I was presented with my vegan low calorie diet meals to take home. They provide you with your breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, herbal teas, fruit juices, and bottled water.
The days I didn’t have a wrap were called dry days. During which I had to reduce my fluid intake. Also included in my first week was the colonic, which is optional.
I was really keen to go through the whole detox experience, so I opted to have the colonic done. Without going into too much detail, I can only describe it as like going to the toilet lying down. A small pipe is inserted (either by yourself or the therapist) to allow the water to enter your stomach and then it’s just a case of doing a lot of pushing. The cramps were very painful to start with, but once I relaxed and let myself go, I found it more comfortable.
I would definitely advise you to stay in the waiting room after, to make sure you’ve got everything out of your system. Although I must admit that by the next day I was feeling a lot better.
By the second week my body had started to adjust to the wraps, so to make me sweat more, I stayed for longer. In one of my sessions I stayed for 1hour 40 minutes and used five heating pads. For the duration of my second week I had five wraps, a dry day, but no colonic.
The End of My Detox
After two weeks of body wraps, food hampers and a colonic, I had finally finished my BeautifulBreak detox and successfully lost 5.3kg.
It was actually nice not to have to worry about cooking or going grocery shopping for the two weeks. I also found the thermal body wraps quite an enjoyable experience.
For the first few days after my detox I felt so tired, I found myself sleeping a lot. But once I got passed that I found myself feeling a lot better.
My Tips for Completing the Detox
Before you even think of starting the detox you need to set aside some time in your diary. I’ll be honest, if you love caffeine, alcohol, eating meat, smoke, and enjoy eating out then you’re going to find it tough. You have to follow a strict vegan low calorie, no salt diet and you’re only allowed to drink the water, juices, and tea they give you.
I’m a vegetarian and I don’t smoke or drink, so adjusting to the diet wasn’t a problem for me. This could also explain why I never really suffered with any of the side affects, such as headaches, and irritability, which I’m told can happen, as your body adjusts to your new diet.
To help ease you into life on detox try gradually giving these things up, so that it’s not such a shock to you or your system.
Not being able to eat or drink anything outside of the packed meals they give you, means your social life will be limited. So I’d recommend you share your time with a partner or friends, to make it more enjoyable experience. You can even have your thermal body wraps done together.
Once you come off the detox it’s important that you ease yourself slowly, back into the daily routine of your normal life. Here are some points to remember:
•Reduce your salt and sugar intake
•Drink soups for a couple of days after
•Use oil instead of butter
•Swap your normal butter for Soya butter
•Try not to eat too much fruit straight away
•Start reintroducing meat slowly back into your diet. Start off by eating fish before moving onto white meat.
But most importantly just enjoy your time on the detox. With all your meals, snacks, and drinks taken care of, there’s really nothing for you to stress about.
All you have to do is just lie back and relax during the thermal body wraps. Consider it as like giving yourself a physical and mental spring clean. I promise your body will thank you for it.
