When I noticed the advert for Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ new film ‘Shelter’, I thought that it didn’t look like my kind of film.
Learning it was a thriller made me even less enthusiastic to see it.

As a fan of Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ work, I went to see the film. I felt a little better when I realised the film was rated as a 15 -surely it can’t be that bad, can it?

The psychological thriller features Julianne Moore alongside Jonathan Rhys Meyers, as Dr Cara Jessup.
Cara has made a career from defying the notions on multiple personality disorders. Her testimonies as an expert witness, in the court, against many cases of multiple personality disorders, resulted in the death sentence for many murderers.

The horrific death of her husband did not take away her faith in god, although her father and daughter Samantha are both left questioning god and his actions.

Her dad introduces her to his new patient, Adam, but the more Cara uncovers about Adam, the more the life of her and her loved ones is endangered. It’s a race against time for Cara to find out the truth surrounding Adam, and her devotion to god and science are tested. There could be grave consequences for her or her loved ones.

As much as I enjoyed seeing Jonathan Rhys Meyers in a completely different role, the film did psychologically get to me, and I had to sit and watch a girlie film to erase the images from my head. I don’t think I will ever watch this film again.
