It’s quite surprising that a pop star that enjoys dry humping the floor in an extremely revealing manner would receive the extended attentions of “ The Observer” and “The Guardian” this week.

Shakira has been getting so much coverage from Gordon Brown ( the unlikely pair organised events in conjunction with the Global Campaign for Education) to the Daily Star because her new album “She Wolf” is absolutely fantastic! It’s inventive, sexy, idiosyncratic, and damned cool… everything that pop music has been crying out for. Average pop music just won’t cut it these days. One quick thing; yes I am a bloke and I am not pursuing the talents of Shakira simply because of THAT video of the single “She Wolf” (32 million views and counting.) All here for the artistic skill and integrity I’m sure!

The new album fizzes with electronica, sex, uplifting choruses and some seriously freaky beats. Shakira has called her bluff again and has delivered something truly different for 2009, dispelling the phrase that “Pop will eat itself.”

If you put away your prejudice of modern of pop music and give it a chance, it will gloriously tumble into your unconscious.

Columbian born Shakira, learnt the English language through referring to the lyrics of Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan and frequently quotes Socrates at will,

“A life without examination is a life that’s not worth living.”

Take into account her eight years of therapy; her job as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and the aforementioned individuality and it’s easy to see that Shakira isn’t your typical pop star.

According to the singer herself, she is not what she would call “normal” saying that she “always feels like she hasn’t really done anything.

Shakira’s sincere self-depreciation is gloriously British (perhaps learnt from Cohen and Dylan all those years ago,) and she remains a refreshing pop star to say the least; something I think we all need.
