Just when you think that Lady Gaga can’t top any of her last videos Telephone comes along and wipes the floor clean. A legend was born on 28th March 1986, full of passion, interest and bags of intelligence.

At ten minutes long this video has truly surpassed anything before it - are we all consumers of the technological age, which we cannot control in anyway? Are the bourgeoisie being controlled by the elite in the age of internet and mobile technology overload?

There is plenty of amazing symbolism and references to female empowerment throughout, as the video uses the power of the words, the mind, images and colour. The mass music viewer might be a tad confused with the telephone symbols, not quite sure what she’s actually on about!

Gaga is pushing new boundaries in the art of making music videos. No other video has had such an impact on the masses with 17 million hits at the last count via You Tube and iTunes downloads. Too often today the music videos from all genres have a typical sex kitten dancing or a troupe of male dancers, dripping in bling so typical of hip hop and ‘r’n'b music…. of course there’s nothing wrong with that!

But we hardly notice the videos or analyse it in depth, let alone talk about it in length like Lady Gaga’s work.

Images and Metaphors
Lady Gaga is creating something that is quite extraordinary, she is actually developing a category for the Queen of pop videos. Thus Telephone is oozing with lesbian references, sex slaves, mass murder and control.

So what is she saying? That America is a controlled society and that people eat all the crap that are fed to them by politicians and elitists - are they controlling the country maybe even the world?

The poison that she pours into the diners food is stating that we as consumers are willing to swallow rubbish and  junk. It’s fed into our subconscious mind without us questioning its wrong doing; like food pumped with chemicals. There is a list of chemicals displayed for pouring into the honey when Gaga is preparing food for the diners, so that it lasts longer but its poisoning humans. Are we addicted to junk and crap in our must-have-it-all gadgets world?

Colours
The black and white bee keeper’s outfit is good and evil, plus honey is what Lady Gaga and Beyonce used for the homicide scene. The pussy wagon is an erotic and sexually powerful message, they have completed their mission for now, by clamping their hands in a heart shape represents their love of what they do. It represents female empowerment and this is a sadistic metaphor.

It’s an astonishing achievement for a singer so young – her creative style is mind blowing.

And, even if you don’t get the video for Telephone it’s a catchy quirky song.
