I was fortunate enough not to have had first hand experience of living through a war. And if I’m honest it was only after watching Blitz Street with Tony Robinson that I fully started to appreciate what it must have been like.
During the programme a whole street was recreated using the same materials that they would have used before. They then set about blowing up the street using the same bombs that were used during the war.
Without the modern technologies of today, music was used to keep the spirit of the nation alive during that dark time.
Old time classics like Dame Vera Lynn’s “We’ll Meet Again” and “The White Cliffs of Dover” became widely recognised as anthems of that time, helping to reunite a nation that was at war.
So to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain and The Dunkirk Story a double CD of Heroes Collection – Wartime Favourites has been released for you to buy.

If you’re a fan of classic old tunes then you’re in for a real treat because in total 50 old Wartime favourite songs are featured on the double CD.
When I played it I couldn’t help but feel all nostalgic. It was nice to hear some of the songs that even I recognised, mainly from TV theme tunes and adverts I must admit.
My highlights include Perry Como “Magic Moments”, George Formby “When I’m Cleaning Windows”, Al Bowlly “Goodnight Sweetheart”, and The Andrews Sisters “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.”
