Gio Compario, the operatic star of adverts for insurance firm Go Compare has thrown his novelty sized hat into the ring and joined the race to be crowned Christmas Number One.
Gio (real name Wynne Evans) has achieved cult status as the front man for some of the most annoying adverts since the Crazy Frog appeared on TV screens in the early Naughties, and hopes to capitalise on his ‘success’ by beating X Factor winner Matt Cardle to the Christmas Number One spot, with his cover of the festive classic, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.
While normally, I would be running as far away as possible from the idea of a novelty cover for Christmas, the Gio Compario track is one I’m actually happy to support, as proceeds from the single go to the wonderful charity Teenage Cancer Trust who do some truly amazing work for young people across the UK.
