Fabio Capello was right to be optimistic about England winning against Slovenia in yesterday’s last group match, after all he relaxed his usually strict rules and allowed the team to have a drink the night before to calm their nerves. Hopefully Fabio will allow them a victory drink in celebration of England’s 1-0 win. Jermain Defoe’s early goal was just what was needed to give fans hope of winning the match. The England Manager looked ecstatic when his team won, making a change from recent snaps where he has been seen looking less than happy.

Germany is next! The BBC reports that Germany’s Captain, Phillipp Lahm claimed that he thinks Germany have more mental strength than England but getting a goal past England’s defence will prove difficult. The two countries will meet in Bloemfontein (kick-off at 15.00 on Saturday) after England beat Slovenia 1-0, to finish second in Group C and Germany won 1-0 against Ghana to top Group D.

England stands a decent chance of winning the Germany game and the chances will be improved if Wayne Rooney’s ankle improves after an injury in March.  Rooney’s ankle was giving him pain in the match against Slovenia. The Telegraph comments that Wayne Rooney’s ankle should be better for the Germany match.  Rooney has long been anticipated as being one of the World Cup’s greatest footballers but he’s yet to show what he’s made of.  I’m sure England fans will be hoping his ankle has a speedy recovery.
