While the Eng-er-land World Cup campaign was somewhat lacking in female presence – apart from of course Christine Bleakley – model and Paraguayan personality Larissa Riquelme has become something of a global focus following her unfaltering support for her national side.
Most often clad in ‘form fitting’ vests – Larissa’s vociferous support for her team saw her even promise to run naked around the streets of Paraguay if they won the World Cup – which people seemed more enthusiastic about than Maradona’s pledge to do the same for Argentina…
But lo and behold – it seems that Larissa is such a dedicated follower of football and so committed to supporting her beloved team, that she is to go ahead with her fun run as a ‘present to all of the players, and for all the people in Paraguay to enjoy because they tried as hard as possible and gave it their all on the field’.
Crikey.
You can imagine that this act, a unique mix of patriotism, exhibitionism and cynicism, has been met with rapturous applause from the footballing blogosphere. Thank heavens that all hope is not lost in Paraguay.
