    The X-Factor: The final countdown

Finally. There’s been drama, tantrums, and tears, but after 12 long weeks the X-Factor winner is finally going to be announced this weekend. On Saturday night the acts will perform with A-List stars, then one will get the boot. A further elimination will be made halfway through Sunday’s show, and finally, the winner will be announced securing that dream record contract.

The acts’ celebrity pairings have been announced, and it’s a good line up. Matt is to duet with Rihanna, Christina Aguilera with Rebecca, Cher with Will.I.Am, and One Direction with Robbie Williams. We’re not sure how Matt and Rihanna will gel together, and can’t help but feel he would have worked better with Christina. Christina’s voice and confidence is so powerful it may overpower Rebecca, so let’s hope the shy Liverpool lass gives a star performance on the night. Whatever happens, it’s bound to be eventful.

The atmosphere in the X-Factor camp is tense, with contestants more nervous than ever to make it to the finish line. It has been reported that Cher Lloyd is a nervous wreck after hearing there is a growing hate campaign against her. The fragile star admitted: ‘I expect to be going on Saturday. It’s fine. I’ve made it this far and I’m very lucky’. She continued, ‘I know I’m not going to win it, come on, I’m a rapper. Normally people like me don’t get a chance on these shows’.

Simon admitted Cher to be a ‘bit of a brat’ but added ’she is respectful and fun to work with’. Allegedly, each act has recorded their winning single in preparation for the weekend. Cowell has said “Each artist recorded their own song that is geared towards them, they’ve each got their own song’. Perhaps unsuprising given the differing styles of all the acts.

With shock results almost every week, anything could happen, but the current odds are as follows:

Matt Cardle 10/11 favourite to win, Rebecca Ferguson 5/2, One Direction 11/4, Cher 20/1.

so who will you be voting for??

  • Cher Lloyd to be a mini Moss?

Cher Lloyd to be a mini Moss?

It looks like Cher Lloyd has got herself another celebrity admirer in the form of fashion icon and living legend Ms Moss. According to Now magazine, Kate’s fascinated by the 17 year olds style and personality, and predicts a big career for her in fashion if not music. She’s not the first to express an interest in Cher however, with Will.i.am and JayZ also interested in working with her, and Henry Holland having made a Cher Lloyd slogan t-shirt.

Kate is allegedly impressed by Cher’s ’swagger’, and an insider was reported to have said “She’s waiting until the show finishes but she’s spoken to a few fashion experts about it and they’ve all agreed Cher could be one to watch in the industry in the next few years.”

Something tells us no matter who wins the X-Factor, the in demand Miss Lloyd’s going to stick around for a long time.

  • X Factor Fix: was Cheryl’s ‘no-vote’ just a plot to save Katie from deadlock?

X Factor Fix: was Cheryl’s ‘no-vote’ just a plot to save Katie from deadlock?

X Factor presenter, Dermot O’Leary, allegedly revealed last night that the controversial ‘no-vote’ from Cheryl Cole was in fact rehearsed. Reports that producers plotted Cheryl’s refusal to vote during the commercial break have surfaced amidst a huge wave of complaints from fans (over 1000 to ITV, and 2000 to TV company, Ofcom), with TV sources confirming that Treyc Cohen had in fact recieved three times as many votes as Katie Waissel and that the dramatic argument between O’Leary and Cole, which resulted in the decision to go to majority vote, was planned from the beginning. Since Sunday, fans have been calling for Cole to be sacked from her £1.7m job, arguing that she’s unfit for the role, with some even calling for a ‘public voting ban’.

But is it all really true? O’Leary hit his Twitter this morning to ‘clear things up’, stating that publications had got the ‘wrong end of the stick’, and that the producers ‘never know which way the judges are going to vote’.
Dermot wrote: “the only thing I know is who’s in the bottom 2 when I’m given the card. I don’t know which judge to go to until I’m called, and the judges, including Simon, dont know the vote or who we’re coming to next. Its that simple.

So are the reports false, or was Treyc booted out of the competition unfairly? Katie’s recently spoken out, saying, “I am in total shock about it. When I said “sod it” that wasn’t me giving up. That was me just trying so hard to get across the meaning of the lyrics as they meant so much to me. It was more frustration,” while further rumours about disputes in the X Factor house with fellow contestant, Cher Lloyd, are beginning to circulate. It’s already been said that Katie makes for ‘interesting television’, with Simon stating “she knows what she’s doing.” Could ITV be facing another voting scandal, or is this all merely bitter, false rumours?

Glamour at the Pride of Britain Awards

Britain’s best-loved celebrites got glamourous at the Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards, last night. The annual event, held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, saw appearances from a whole host of celebs, who showed their support for Britain’s unsung heroes. Cheryl Cole put on a brave face and wore a stunning black Helmut Lang maxi dress, while three of her Girls Aloud bandmates showed their support following the on-going X Factor backlash, with fashionista, Nicola Roberts in William Tempest, Sarah Harding in a beige assymetrical dress and Kimberly Walsh in a gorgeous red Issa gown. The X Factor contestants didn’t disappoint either; Cher stayed on trend in a black layered lace dress, Rebecca Ferguson looked flawless as usual in a rose floor length gown, and Katie and Treyc appeared to put aside their differences, both getting dressed up in gold. Other stars who stole the show on the red carpet include Pixie Lott, Dannii Minogue, Kelly Brook, The Saturdays, and Coleen Rooney, who represented her advertising campaign in a Littlewoods dress.

  • Katie Waissel – Drama Queen Extraordinaire

    By Rebecca Liu

X Factor reached a new level of ridiculousness last night – Katie Waissel yelling “sod it” before collapsing to the floor, Cheryl Cole metaphorically shooting herself in the foot, and the prospect of having to endure Wagner for yet another week!

Both adored and hated for her drama-queen tendencies, Katie Waissel found herself surviving her third sing-off, despite barely being able to make it through the song. While Treyc gave a powerful performance of ‘Unbreak My Heart’, Katie stumbled through the ironically titled ‘Please Don’t Give Up On Me’,  forgetting her words (again) half way through before falling to the ground with a, “you know what, sod it!” Cheryl’s point-blank refusal to vote: “I am refusing to send anyone home”, and Dermot insisting she couldn’t go to public vote, has driven fans to accuse the show of being fixed, with one fan on Twitter, @EllisOfficial, going as far as to say “The whole series has been constructed to launch Katie Waissel. FACT.” However, Simon has backed his decision to save Katie, stating that she may be a drama queen, but amongst all the bad behaviour and dramatic performances, she “knows what she’s doing”.

While Treyc has now been ‘sent packing’, this week’s mixed performances leaves Wagner continuing to evade the weekly sing-off (essentially becoming this year’s ‘Jedward’ act), Simon’s teeny-bopper, boy-band, ‘One Direction’, dazzling teenage girls across the country, and Rebecca and Matt remaining among the favourites to win the show.

  • Wagner threatens One Direction’s teenage heart throb Harry

Wagner threatens One Direction’s teenage heart throb Harry

Wagner has been known for the odd fiery outrage and sources revealed things got a little heated whilst the X Factor contestants shot the video for the X-Factor charity single Heroes. One Direction’s Harry Styles was told to playfully wrestle Wagner during filming, but the directors did not give Wagner a heads up, leaving a shocked Wagner squaring up to the sweet teen. Apparently, Wagner angrily warned Harry- ”“I advise you, Harry, not to mess with a karate black-belt, with a man who knows martial arts.”

X-Factor bosses immediately swarmed in, separating the pair and warning Wagner of his conduct towards other contestants. Once realising it was just a practical joke, Wagner apologised profusely to Harry and X-Factor producers, humilliated by what had happened.

Despite this seemingly hostile incident, other onlookers claim Wagner was merely having a joke too and is just “a big softie at heart”.

One Direction injury jeopardises upcoming Saturday night performance

Simon Cowell’s favourites One Direction could be in trouble Saturday night as it seems they are to be one man down.  One Direction’s Liam Payne and the rest of One Direction headed to Camden last night to see Tinie Tempah perform. Things soon took a turn for the worst however, when the 16 year old took a tumble over an amp on his way to meet Tinie Tempah.

Liam’s ankle was said to have swollen up so much he had to be taken home by X Factor escorts to see a doctor. Despite his attendance at rehearsals today, it remains unknown if Liam will be fit enough to perform on Saturday’s show, which will surely leave millions of young girls heartbroken.

The embarassed teen tweeted- ‘What a doofus! Fell over on stage in front of tinie tempah…. so uncool. Lol.’

The show is only two days away and the boys had been committed to a lively routine which may now have to be changed last minute. Let’s hope Liam makes a quick recovery and the band can go ahead with him.

Fans fume as Joe McElderry misses out on Number one spot

X-Factor’s Joe McElderry performed his new single ‘Ambitions’ on Sunday’s X-Factor show, with hopes of finally reaching the number one spot. McElderry’s hopes were dashed, however, when young boy band “The Wanted” pipped him to the post with their new single.

McElderry fans claim Global radio did not play his song nearly enough, but played The Wanted (Global talent represents them) nonstop. Global also own Heart fm, Capital fm, and Galaxy, who also neglected to play Joe’s new song.

Global Radio refused to comment but a source claimed the decision not to play the song had nothing to do with the fact that Global represents The Wanted, but because they simply didn’t like the song.

Still, Radio One have been playing the track and featuring it on their playlists, so let’s hope the next track fares a little better. One things for sure, he remains to be the happiest, most down to earth star the X-Factor has produced yet. Better luck next time Joe!

  • Stephen Fry Wagner gag

The country has gone X-Factor crazy, and one particularly lovable contestant this year is 54 year old Brazilian Wagner Carillho. Wagner is this year’s X-Factor’s token comedy act, giving an entertaining, if a little tuneless performance each week. This week however, it was not Wagner’s performance that got people talking, but the spoof clip circulating the internet of Stephen Fry supposedly exaggeratingly praising the Brazillian singer. Fry is in fact talking about Wilhelm Wagner, the renowned German opera composer.

The clip sees Fry claim “It did something most extraordinary to me. It made me do things inside- it releases forces within me”.

Fry has commented on his Twitter page, “Can’t decide what’s funnier: the way the video is cut together, or that some actually believe I am talking about the X-Factor Wagner.”

Gamu Nhengu shines on the red carpet at Mobos

Last night a host of stars gathered in Liverpool for the MOBO (Music of Black Origin) awards, co hosted by Alesha Dixon and Radio 1’s Reggie Yates. Stars that graced the red carpet included Tulisa of NDubz, Saturdays singer Rochelle Wiseman, and a very slim looking Michelle Williams, formerly of Destiny’s Child. Unsurprisingly, given the Merseyside location, the WAG’s were out in force, with Alex Curran and friend Sheree Murphy enjoying a girly night out, as well as a number of premiership footballers including Everton players Tim Cahill and Phil Jagielka and their girlfriends.

Big winners on the night were X-factor boy band JLS who took home two gongs for Best Album and Best UK act, as well as British rapper Tinie Tempah who won Best Newcomer and Best Video.

Despite an all star round up (and a few d-lister appearances) it was 18 year old X-Factor reject Gamu Nhengu who stole the show, wearing a simple and stylish LBD with leopard print heels. Gamu admitted her immigration status was still unconfirmed- “we don’t know what’s happening and haven’t had any contact yet” but put on a brave face an enjoyed the night, smiling and laughing for the crowds.

The talented teen also admitted that despite being booted off the X Factor, she still watches every week and supports the girls, Cher and Katie.

In terms of her own future, we can guarantee you haven’t seen the last of her yet, as Gamu confessed she has been approached by several record companies and is in the process of deciding which to go with. It certainly looks like once the Visa issues are sorted, Gamu has a long and bright future ahead of her.
