The UK will be buzzing with outdoor music events this summer 2010. From Glastonbury to quirkier ones like the Vintage at Goodwood Festival there really is something there for everyone.
Starting this weekend is the Isle of Wight Festival. The line-up is a pretty weird concoction of big artists. From Jay-Z to Paul McCartney to Pink and Florence & the Machine. Yet compared to last year’s Simple Mind and Razorlight it can only get better. So I guess we will just have to wait and see if this bizare melting pot make it a weekend hard to forget or if it turns out into a small disaster.
Then following up is mighty Glastonbury Festival on the 23rd June. This year will mark its 40th anniversary. There will be around 2,000 performances including music, theatre, circus, poetry and arts and crafts ! The line-up looks absolutely amazing. It just seems as if all the artists will be there. The big names are Stevie Wonder, Dizzee Rascal, Vampire Weekend, Snoop Dogg, Scissor Sisters, Jack Johnson, Ray Davies, Slash, Florence And The Machine, LCD Soundsystem, MGMT, Groove Armada, Jamie T, The xx and many many more.
Mid July, The Latitude Festival in Suffolk is just “more than a music festival”. Never mind the great line up: Florence & the Machine, Vampire Weekend, The National, Empire of the Sun and Belle & Sebastian you also get a fairytale forest, pink sheep, lakes, meadows and a cool family atmosphere! No wonder this pretty new 5 year old festival, is beginning to be hugely popular.
On the 1st August is a special festival dedicated to all the under 18s . Its the Underage Festival! “ It’s time to start making empty promises about achieving good GCSE grades/helping around the house/not getting pregnant” says quite correctly Time Out. With Darwin Deez and his electro-beats and M.I.A followed by pop singer Goulding, this music event does look very promising!
The Vintage at Goodwood Festival celebrating ” All that is best about British Popular Culture” is taking place mid August. This quirky fashion/art/music filled event is definitely one to look forward too. They “passionately believe that music, fashion and design should never be separated…” The Buzzcocks, Heritage Orchestra With Sandie Shaw, Martha and the Vandellas and Noisettes will be playing.
So it seems there truly will be something for everyone. From the underage to campers to the vintage lovers.
