We were both bemused and enthralled by the sapphic undertones, the Tarantino homages and product placement of Telephone, and now we have Lady Gaga’s latest audio-visual extravaganza, Alejandro to contend with.
Apparently the song is a celebration of the bravery of gay relationships – with plenty of religious imagery, contorting lithe bodies and….’military’ esque outfits for good measure. The song is decidedly EuroPop and by the end of it the name Alejandro has lost all meaning – but watching Gaga getting thrown around dressed in a red leather habit, swallowing a string of Rosary beads and chaining herself to a bed has its merits.
We were promised a reference to Madonna’s Like A Prayer – and what we really got was an amalgamation of every Madonna video, a few scenes from Basic Instinct 2 and Cabaret…all to a soundtrack with is distinctly Vegaboysish. That said, Gaga can do no wrong, and if THIS is the benchmark of avant garde cool, we’re dressing like this at the weekend.

I’m amazed she managed to dance in that bra!
