The song has topped the charts in several countries, yet it’s the music video for Eminem and Rihanna’s Love The Way You Lie has seemed to generate the most buzz.
It stars Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan as a couple trapped in a dysfunctional and destructive relationship.
In one scene, the couple exchange slaps, before kissing passionately against the wall. The depiction of violence leading to sexual desire has left some viewers uncomfortable.
However, the lyrics of the song do not mirror this. When Eminem raps “I laid hands on her, I’ll never stoop so low again/I guess I don’t know my own strength”, it’s clearly not glamorising the violence but showing an honest and remorseful account of an abusive relationship.
Rihanna said she felt the song was something she needed to do to get it out of her system, following her very public attack at the hands of her then boyfriend, Chris Brown.
What do you make of the video?
