Winner of the Critics Award, Steven Isserlis, talks to t5m about his worst experiences of performing. Anyone who has seen Spinal Tap will sympathise with his story of getting lost in the winding corridors of a concert venue.

He talks about his favourite piece of music, an aria from St. Mathew’s Passion by Bach which he says an incredibly moving piece of music that makes his wife cry just by thinking about it.

He reveals why he plays the cello. Apparently it was the only instrument missing in the musical household that he grew up in.

He also signed the Karl Hofner violin which you can win by entering the competition and answering a simple question.
