The Editors front man Tom Smith and bassist Russell Leetch were an irreverent breath of fresh air on the red carpet, and no wonder. In their own words, “it was a great year.”
When asked who had designed their clothes, the duo responded “we didn’t get dressed, we dressed ourselves,” showcasing their signature laid back style. Their choice of song of the year was also unique, differing from the more contemporary acts chosen by many of the other artists. “Bruce Springsteen with Radio Nowhere. Best song of 2007.”
No less inspired was their take on who they’d like to see performing at the ceremony, casting aside the actual performers and choosing a presenter! “I’d like Ozzy (Osbourne) to actually perform” said Russell Leetch, Tom Smith adding “Warpigs would be great,” talking of the Black Sabbath song from their best selling album, Paranoid. They also looked forward to ex-Beatle Paul Mccartney, as a defining figure in British music. The Klaxons and Rihanna collaboration also “intrigued” Smith, although they reject collaboration for their band, The Editors. “You aspire to make something new yourself” said the front man.
They were enthusiastic about the year of 2007, which was a success for their band commercially and personally. “We released an album (An End Has a Start) which went to number 1, which was amazing. We played lots and lots of festivals, which were fun” said Leetch. Smith added that just being nominated for a Brit Award for Best British Band shows “it’s going the right way!”
