BRITs chairman Ged Doherty believes that with a huge breadth of nominations this year and 1000 people voting on the academy, even smaller players like Scouting for Girls and Beth Rowley stand a chance of winning against the likes Coldplay and Duffy – nominated for four awards each.
He tells us how a substantial amount of money made by the BRITs each year goes to the BRIT Trust, which is then donated to the BRIT School, Nordoff Robins Music Therapy and a selection of twenty smaller charities. “So far we’ve contibuted over ten million pounds.”
Ged enthuses about the the music coming out of the UK at the moment. “What stands out is the breadth of British talent, and that’s something we’re very proud of around the world.” He says this year’s line up for the actual ceremony is “probably the best we’ve ever had” and thinks hosts Kylie Minogue, Matthew Horne and James Corden will provide viewers with “something for everyone.”
