Ivy Bean, the world’s oldest Tweeter, died yesterday aged 104. Ivy made a name for herself tweeting cheerful updates from her care home in Bradford.
Ivy enjoyed the social aspect of Twitter saying: “Before I signed up to Twitter all I used to do was sit all day and fall asleep. I’d be miserable if I didn’t do it.”
She managed to notch up a series of celebrity followers including Sarah Brown, Chris Evans, Stephen Fry and Peter Andre.
Peter Andre had struck up a close friendship with the ‘silver surfer’ after meeting last year and phoned Ivy’s care home, Hillside Manor, shortly before her death to wish her well.
Pat Wright, manager of Hillside Manor, updated Ivy’s Twitter after she was taken ill and bore the bad news of her death yesterday tweeting: “Ivy passed away peacefully at 12.08 this morning,” adding “I’m sorry it took me so long to tell you but it was a very difficult thing to do.”
Andre has since tweeted saying: ““I am very saddened to hear that Ivy has passed away.”
Stephen Frey also paid his respects to the late Ivy, tweeting: “”the divine @IvyBean104 … oldest twitterer.”
