WOMAD is certainly living up to its name of international implications as its organisers are set to stage a festival in the sunny climes of the Arabian desert. The three day event will take place in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, in April.
Peter Gabriel’s world music festival – of West-Country origins – has already acclimatised to Australia, Spain, New Zealand, Italy and The Canary Islands.
For its Dubai event, WOMAD will be working with the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage. The festival’s director, Chris Smith, said that “the event will bring a whole new cultural experience to the people of Abu Dhabi and will attract an audience from across the Gulf region and beyond.”
