Yesterday, Britain saw the world’s longest ever professional tennis match, lasting ten hours showing that tennis is one of the most difficult sports to be played. The match saw John Isner and Nicolas Mahut thrash out the match with strong serves and boundless stamina. The match finished at 9pm because dusk descended on the court. The players could no longer see the ball, making playing slightly tricky. The umpire therefore agreed to call it a day.
The Guardian reports that both Boris Becker and Sue Barker were astonished at the length of the match and could barely believe that they were seeing a record match in the making. Even though the players continued to play with energy and determination, the scoreboard gave up and they had to continue with a blank screen.
The score at the end of the day was 59 – 59. Today they will attempt to close historic match and will be the third game of the day on court 18.
