I awoke this morning with the lovely Louise Amstrup. She put a smile on my face with her flirty, floaty ways.
The second On|Off showcase from Amstrup, who has previously trained with Alexander McQueen and Sofia Kokosalakai, takes inspiration from the 1984 cult classic movie ‘Paris, Texas’ where the landscape is bleak and dry but the female protagonist (Jane Henderson) is most certainly not. And neither was this collection.
A strong mix of trend continuity (waist belts, bubble skirts and graphic prints all reappeared from past seasons) and a few brand new bangs (over-sized lapels; baggy, floaty lines which have an elegant drape despite their looseness) delivered a practical but punchy second show. A few key dresses with exaggerated frontage detail promise to be big news, as do the slit-sleeved jackets.
It may only be Monday but I would predict that pockets, pockets, pockets – in dresses, skirts, tops are going to be everywhere this season. Amstrup was no exception, with low-slung pockets apparent on almost every piece. And I welcome this trend with my hands firmly in my pockets– sometimes a girl needs to put down her clutch and go solo.
