Elisabeth Donovan
Nature necessarily moves on, infinitely transforming itself, adapting, evolving, forever locked in a constant state of fluidity and flux… Taking this natural paradigm as a template for his own clothing ranges, Marki Liu’s ‘Zero Waste’ fashion attempts to expand upon previous notions of ecologically minded clothing, providing a series of innovative and intricate patterns that merge and combine with one another in an endless jigsaw of fabric, which can also be summed by a minimal waste of fabric.

Marion Cotillard becomes Lady Noire for Dior
22nd May 2009 | 0 comments | 0 votes yet, click here to agree or disagree
Dior has become the latest iconic brand to produce a high-fashion film to secure its status as an über-brand. The first episode of this Dior series exploded on the internet in the last couple of days, in typical cult fashion style. The series follows the exploits of the mysterious Lady Noire, played by beautiful French actress Marion Cotillard and her stylish co-star, the Lady Dior bag. It seems to us that the fashion world is having a love-affair with the film set: the Dior episodes are just the latest in a recent spate of fashion-focused films including the feature length Coco Avant Chanel with Audrey Tautou and the Chanel No 5 advert also starring the French actress. Added to the recent couture action on the Cannes carpet, it seems film has never been more fashionable. Read more »

Mischa Barton, Alexa Chung and Jaime Winstone dazzle at BAFTA TV Awards
27th April 2009 | 0 comments | 0 votes yet, click here to agree or disagree
I would love to say there was a theme to the red carpet ensembles at this year’s BAFTA TV Awards – be it a particular length, a must-have designer or at least a dominant colour. Instead the BAFTA TV Awards 2009 was a hotch potch of everything from floor length vintage inspired navy, to shimmering cocktail dresses and mustard yellow bell-bottoms. Maybe it was the brilliant sunshine that encouraged everyone to ‘do their own thing’ – but whatever the reason, there was absolutely no chance of duplicate outfits at last night’s ceremony. Naomi Campbell to strut for charity at Lakme Fashion Week
27th March 2009 | 0 comments | 0 votes yet, click here to agree or disagree
We like the sound of Naomi Campbell’s charity work – teaming up with a millionaire hotelier, being dressed in unique, Indian-inspired designs from fashion powerhouses including Dolce & Gabanna and then being lauded as being responsible for world peace. Yes, really.
Miss Campbell and Indian hotelier Vikram Chatwal have joined forces to put on a glittering catwalk show in Mumbai, celebrating both the opening of Lakme Fashion Week and raising money for Citizens for Justice and Peace - a charity which provides relief in light of the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks. The show is part of Naomi’s ‘Fashion for Relief’ project, which she founded in 2005 to galvanize the fashion community to lend it’s resources and support in times of crisis and need.
It looks set to be a truly star-studded event, as one would expect from la Campbell, with Zac Posen and Roberto Cavalli amongst some of the designers involved, and an as-yet unrevealed cast of models to join Naomi on the catwalk.
We cannot wait to see Naomi’s take on Bollywood glamour.

High end goes high street: Jil Sander meets Uniqlo
20th March 2009 | 0 comments | 0 votes yet, click here to agree or disagree
Apparently, we aren’t the only ones who cannot resist the lure of multi-coloured high street mecca, Uniqlo. Jil Sander, the notoriously low key and press-shy designer, is teaming up with the Japanese superstore to produce an A/W collection for next year.
Whereas Uniqlo is famed for its rainbow simplicity and affordability, Jil Sanders’ aesthetic has been one which emphasises perfection and luxury – a huge hit with all those incredibly rich people of the 90’s who were all about minimalism. Needless to say we are very excited to see what the pair come up with.
And there was us thinking we would never own anything by Jil Sander.

Paris Fashion Week: The highlights and the lowdown
13th March 2009 | 1 comments | 0 votes yet, click here to agree or disagree
Ever-chic Paris Fashion Week has seen flying jackets and fur collars at Hermès, the grown-up cocktail chic at Roland Mouret and the skirt suits at Dior. Not to mention Beth Ditto, Kate Moss and Kanye West, who are almost as exciting as the clothes. And it hasn’t even finished yet.
So what have we learnt so far? Well, black is back – well, so says Alber Elbaz at Lanvin, Stefano Pilati for Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfield for Chanel (with cream ruffles, of course), which is perhaps unsurprising given the ‘R’ word. Also, there’s nothing wrong with dressing like you fell out of a Parisian bordello according to Jean Paul Gaultier, whose collection was all about exposure. We’re talking glimpses of flesh between the folds of a trench coat, cut out leather boots and fishnet leather leggings.
But then, just when you think you’re getting it – Miu Miu happens. No raunchy, edgy, sexy leather and tassles were to be found amongst the decadent glamour of this slouchily tailored collection of taupes and cafe au lait hues. The knitwear was based on Persian rugs, and the dresses and blouses were made of finest silks, literally falling off the shimmering models.
The 80’s were well represented by Balmain, with lots of sequins and enormous padded shoulders – but equally, ‘the future’ was heavily referenced by the wonderfully conceptual Junya Watanabe with lots of quilted nylon cocoons and gothic makeup. Add to this Stella McCartney’s boyish tailoring, corsetry at Vivienne Westwood and ’sensuality’ at Hussein Chayalan - and it becomes clear that PFW has been a melting pot of ideas, decades and responses to the economic crisis.

Status symbols

From Luella to Sinha Stanic to William Tempest, if you were following London Fashion Week here at t5m you couldn’t have failed to notice the royal references marching the catwalks.
Inspired by the continual influence the Windsors hold in the fashion world – Alexa Chung and Agyness Deyn both name the Queen as their style icon – Central St Martin students have been busy tracing the influence of royal style on our wardrobes.
Check out their website for designer biographies and street style, or for daily updates head to their blog where pink wigs, La Roux and trench coats are some of the eclectic points of discussion.

We Heart Ronson

Dj-ing, producing, modelling and now designing. Wow, we want some of those Ronson genes.
t5m were fortunate enough to catch up with Charlotte Ronson, the eldest of the Ronson clan, as she releases her first collection on this side of the Atlantic in none other than fashion mecca, Harrods. Charlotte has already taken the States by storm with her various collections, be it for her high-end Charlotte Ronson label, or her diffusion lines for Urban Outfitters (yes, we wanted to own all of it) and JC Penny – so it’s about time she bought her effortless, feminine chic to these shores.
Her S/S 09 collection is all pretty pinks, flirty frills and punky, yet girly, wedges - and there’s no doubt London girls with a taste for the sugary sweet will snap it up. But it was her A/W, or ‘fall’ as she calls it, lines that have attracted the real attention – and saw her in the prestigious Bryant Park tents of January’s New York Fashion Week for a second time.

Pamela’s model behaviour

Oh my god – Pamela Anderson, yes really, is taking to the hallowed runways of Paris Fashion Week today, modelling her new BFF Vivienne Westwood’s A/W Collection. Wow. Funnily enough it’s Pam’s catwalk debut – and a sneak peak behind the scenes at PFW tell us that her outfit is inspired by the angels of high Renaissance painter Andrea Mantegna, but will also be hoiked up like a rucksack.
Interesting…but it beats her red swimsuit.

Brits abroad
5th March 2009 | 0 comments | 0 votes yet, click here to agree or disagree
Paris Fashion Week had better prepare for a British invasion. Yup, hoping for a repeat of their success at London Fashion Week - British designers including Erdem Moraliogu, House of Holland, Mark Fast, Meadham Kirchoff and Mary Katrantzou will all be showing their A/W 09 collections at the London Showrooms, in a bid to emulate the success of other designers such as John Galliano and Hussein Chalayan who all made their name in Paris.
It’s a sort of school-exchange style programme, where the British Fashion Council aim to export British talent to other markets – and the most recent star pupil is boy-wonder Gareth Pugh who shows his a/w 09 collection in the City of Lights today.
We wouldn’t mind a trip to Paris Fashion Week either…if anyone’s listening?
