The recipients of the 15th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced yesterday and it has to be said that surprises were few. Kate Winslet was once again applauded for her role as Hanna Schmitz in The Reader, whilst Sean Penn took home an award for his much lauded role in Gus Van Sant’s Milk.

The late Heath Ledger was honoured with an award for Outstanding Performance in a Supporting Role for his menacing portrayal of the Joker in the Dark Knight, whilst Meryl Streep picked up praise for Doubt. Slumdog Millionaire rose to the occasion once again, picking up the accolade of Outstanding Performance by the Cast of a Motion Picture.

Popular US dramas such as House and Brothers and Sisters were also honoured in the awards, along with various ensembles of stuntmen for film the Dark Knight and drama Heroes.
