Royal Academy Summer Exhibition Preview – Fashion Parade!
London’s bright young things do like to be seen on a red carpet (or in this case, blue), but who knew they were such culture vultures? The likes of Agyness Deyn, Henry Holland, Alexa Chung and Jaime Winstone all spent a balmy evening at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition preview (opening to the public June 8th), turning the popular summer art event into a catwalk for the latest, hottest outfits of the season.
For one evening the guests got more attention than the art, proving that London’s young blood can more than hold their own against the fashion experts who were also there; the likes of Yasmin Le Bon and Stella McCartney among others. They were there to see the pick of this year’s pieces, including Damian Hirst’s sculpture of Saint Bartholomew, but the fashion on the blue carpet beforehand was just as exciting to inspect. Fashion darling Alexa Chung chose a short Grecian style grey dress by Sophia Kokosalaki and teamed it with her signature loafers but in metallic gold. We think this girl is going to create a storm of fashion imitators a la Kate Moss very soon.
Brit actress Tamsin Egerton on the other hand knows how to keep the copycats at bay, choosing a D&G dress from the pre autumn-winter 2009/10 collection with cute, butterfly detail shoes. And although it might look a little crazy, Tracy Emin stole the paparazzi show in Vivienne Westwood, teaming a pale pink patterned dress with a brash red and black stripe jacket (think the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland) which made for a fantastic pattern clash (very now).
Beth Ditto may have been wearing an over-sized string vest, but top marks for her fierce Louis Vuitton platforms, and don’t think Yasmin Le Bon was upstaged by her daughter Amber; the yummy mummy wore a pink and black dress patterned dress from Christopher Kane’s autumn-winter 2009/10 collection. This season, Brit celebrities and summer fashion have gone together like tea and scones: we feel a second wave of Cool Britannia coming on!
