When touting the top live acts to look forward to in 2009 you have to consider whether the band themselves will bring as much charisma to the stage as their Myspace page. Without the backdrop of a graphic mélange of colour and the ‘rags to ….rags’ About Me section, you don’t want to be disappointed even if their 10,987 friends do show up.

Melancholic crusaders White Lies pick up where Arcade Fire’s Intervention left off. The west London three-piece have proven themselves on the smaller stages across the world and will be sure to have you screaming ‘encore’ long after the lights have come back on and the security have you buy the scruff of the neck.

Crashing percussion, church organs and ethereal vocals, the live is experience is as much euphoric and uplifting as it is haunting. Being inspired by Ian Curtis biopic ‘Control’, these boys somehow manage to resurrect the magic that was Joy Division where countless band have only touched the periphery.
