Naomi Campbell has given evidence in the war crimes trial against Charles Taylor.
The supermodel spoke of a charity dinner she attended in 1997, where she was woken in the middle of the night by two men and given a pouch containing “small, dirty looking stones.”
The model said she discussed the incident with fellow guests the following morning and was told “That’s obviously Charles Taylor.”
Naomi Campbell is said to have received blood diamonds from Charles Taylor, who is facing trial on the charges of criminal responsibility for murder, rape, sexual slavery and the use of child soldiers.
The 40 year old model had refused to take part in the trial until she was issued with a subpoena, a writ issued by a government agency, compelling them to testify.
When asked why she was so unwilling to testify, Campbell responded: “”This is someone that I read up on the Internet that killed thousands of people supposedly and I don’t want my family in any danger in any way,”
