Well it seems that London Fashion Week will be THE place to show this coming autumn, with the latest news that Matthew Williamson is following hot on the heels of Burberry to return to the British catwalks for the spring/summer 2010 shows.
It seems that the rumoured-to-be best ever LFW has attracted some of the country’s best designers back home to celebrate the 25th anniversary of London Fashion Week and the British Fashion Council. With celebrities and fashionistas expected to be out in force for the London shows it’s no wonder that designers want to be a part of it.
Williamson has shown in New York since 2002 (apart from a one-off London show in 2007 to mark the 10th birthday of his label) but told fashion bible WWD, “we were so impressed with the momentum that’s building…that we decided to show in London. It’s a landmark season for London Fashion Week.”
Williamson’s return to the London fashion stage will be welcomed by London-based celebs and fashion editors, who have long been fans of his signature exotic prints and flowing dresses, which appear on the bodies of the A-list and the pages of Vogue year in and year out. We predict famous friends and muses, which include Sienna Miller and Keira Knightley, to be battling for the front-row for the Williamson show.
The label has also been getting the popular fashion vote this year because of the recently launched H&M capsule collection, which was praised for being an affordable alternative to the main line but managing to keep Williamson’s core style in design and fabric choices. t5m predicted it would be a fashion hit for the summer, but it seems that Matthew Williamson will be at the top of British fashion consciousness for the rest of the year as well.
