Since early this afternoon, eager crowds have been lining the red carpet in the hope of catching a glimpse of their favourite stars. With an A List guestlist consisting of everyone from Alexandra Burke to Alan Carr and Fearne Cotton alongside the nominees including U2 and Adele and then the presenters – Kylie Minogue, James Corden and Matthew Horne, we don’t blame them.
t5m was first on the scene – spotting Estelle in her gorgeous white, structural dress with exaggerated shoulder pads, the effortlessly trendy Alexa Chung in an inky sequined mini-dress and the immaculately tailored Elbow working the ’smart/casual’ look in style. Best accessory so far has to go to DJ Calvin Harris whose sportswear inspired suit, complete with go-faster stripe stood out almost as much as his disco-ball mirrored sunglasses (and no, the sun wasn’t shining) – but Alexandra Burke’s gladiatorial Louboutin’s, which looked great with her electric-blue body con dress comes a close second.
Statement shoes were everywhere – Alesha Dixon opted for patent pink stillettoes to liven up her black, sequined outfit, as did Katherine Jenkins, who used her fuchsia heels to add some colour to her white, Stepford style shift. Even the glowing Holly Willoughby was in towering heels, and a figure hugging deep purple dress.
The screams and shrieks got louder and louder as more stars arrived – but by far the biggest applause went for the hosts – James and Matthew were clearly so excited they ran into the crowd to pose for pictures and sign autographs; and Kylie owned the red carpet with her sequined (again) black strapless cocktail dress and high-voltage smile.
As more and more stars arrived, it became clear that The BRITs will be the party of the year – and we’re expecting more eye-popping outfits, one-off performances and scandal than ever!
