Michael Jackson died tonight following a heart attack at his Los Angeles home. The Los Angeles Times reported Michael was not breathing after emergency medics were called to his home to perform ‘cardiopulmonary resusciation’ – when this failed to revive the star, he was rushed to the UCLA Medical Centre hospital, where both the LA Times and celebrity website TMZ were the first news outlets to report the music legend was pronounced dead.
Michael was due to start a series of comeback concerts in London this summer, and had been rehearsing his show in Los Angeles for the last two months.
The LA Times said on its website: “Pop star Michael Jackson was pronounced dead by doctors this afternoon after arriving at a hospital in a deep coma, city and law enforcement sources told The Times.”
While some major news sources – including Britain’s The Times and the Guardian were still awaiting confirmation of the news – many gossip websites, blogs and social networking sites were already reporting that Michael Jackson had indeed died, with tribute groups springing up on Facebook and Twitter.
The news has left millions shocked as music fans across the world mourn the loss of one of the most influential, famed and, at times, controversial stars of our time. Michael sold more than 750m albums worldwide and won 13 Grammy awards, and is an individual whose worldwide popularity and fame broke racial barriers and announced the arrival of a new chapter in pop music and performance.

I was in New Jersey at the time when I heard the king of pop, Micheal Jackson,was dead. At first I was really speechless and I was like, ” No way he is not dead…this is a joke,” but when I went on different channels, I saw the same thing. I really never listened to his music or listened to what he had to say because just like most people I thought he did things that were really wrong, but his interviews about how being called ‘wacko jacko’ made tears appear in my eyes. I just feel so bad for him and his family because everyone made fun of him when he was alive and he just wanted to be left alone. The most suprising thing is how many texts people got that were still making fun of him after he ws dead(only a couple hours after); it is heart breaking(i bet you got a couple to). Another thing is how many people who probably made fun of him were buying CDs,trinkets,and other things to just probably make money down the road. I’m so sorry for ever making fun of Michael Jackson and I hope people around the world will leave him and his family in peace while they mourn for their son,brother,or cousin.
