Huge congratulations to Kate Winslet, who, after years of nominations, won both best actress and best supporting actress for her roles in Revolutionary Road and The Reader at the Golden Globes this week. The actress has previously been nominated for five Golden Globes and five Oscars but never won.

t5m favourite Slumdog Millionaire won best motion picture drama at the Golden Globes this week, beating The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, starring Brad Pitt, Frost/Nixon, The Reader and Revolutionary Road to the prestigious award.
Kate was stunned as she accepted best supporting actress for her portrayal of a former Nazi death camp prison guard in The Reader, directed by Stephen Daldry.
“You’ll have to forgive me – I have a habit of not winning things” she remarked. Winslet beat fellow nominees Doubt co-stars Amy Adams and Viola Davis, Penelope Cruz and Marisa Tomei.
She got more emotional later when accepting best actress honours for her role in Revolutionary Road, directed by husband Sam Mendes.
Triumphing over Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Kristin Scott Thomas and Angelina Jolie, Kate also thanked her family and her co-star Leonardo DiCaprio.
“I’m so sorry Anne, Meryl, Kristin – and who’s the other one? Angelina. Now forgive me, is this really happening?” she said, teary-eyed. “This is absolutely extraordinary.”
Heath Ledger was honoured with a posthumous award for his portrayal of the Joker in The Dark Knight. The late Australian actor beat Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jr, Ralph Fiennes and Philip Seymour Hoffman to the best supporting actor Golden Globe.
Mickey Rourke won an award for best dramatic actor for his role in The Wrestler. He beat Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Frank Langella to the prestigious prize.
