It was a Super Bowl of record-breaking proportions on Sunday, as Pittsburgh won an unprecedented sixth Super Bowl title with a late touchdown in a thrilling 27-23 win over Arizona. At just 34, Mike Tomlin is the youngest coach ever to win a Super Bowl.
James Harrison is know as a great defence player, but it wasn’t expected that he would make the record-breaking run that he did on Sunday. The 100-yard return has been the talk of the game and won the Steelers the title game and their record sixth Super Bowl, 27-23.
Although advertising budgets are being slashed, Sunday’s Super Bowl saw advertisers investing as much as $3m for just 30 seconds in the coveted commercial spots. The American football game is the biggest sporting event in the US calendar with an audience of 100 million, and companies will shell out millions of dollars for airtime.
The ads themselves were also a spectacle, with some of the most creative and high-profile adverts having graced those big screens. It’s such an expensive slot for a reason; audiences actually enjoy and look forward to the adverts.
The spots always aim to deliver something different; funny, risqué or action-packed. This year audiences were treated to a 3-D trailer for Monsters vs Alien. There were the usual celebrity appearances in the ads, including Conan O’Brian for Bud Light, John Turturro for Heineken USA Inc. and Jason Statham for Audi of America Inc.
