It’s clear full length gowns were the main trend at the BAFTAS last night, but Angelina Jolie broke the mould in her modern calf-length dress from the Giorgio Armani Privé collection.

The not-so-understated Alesha Dixon went for ‘more is more’ as she stood out in a head–to-toe organza ruffle dress by Giovanni. In case that wasn’t enough, she accessorized with silk gloves and huge chandelier earrings. Slumdog star Freida Pinto carried of her ruffles far better with a romantic Oscar de la Renta gown in pale pink.

Black, as always, was the most popular colour on the red carpet, with both Penelope Cruz and Kate Winslet following the trend. Kate opted for retro-glam in a Zac Posen fishtail dress, whilst Penelope chose an Azzedine Alaia velvet number. Kylie Minogue dazzled in a black Chanel Couture gown that was delicately beaded with a ruffled hem.

As for the men, Brad Pitt oozed Hollywood glamour in Tom Ford, Daniel Craig looked classy in Burberry, whilst Mickey Rourke ditched the tie for a rock’n'roll look in an unbuttoned black shirt.
