In tribute to Erdem’s eagerly anticipated show today, we’re bringing you something to feast your eyes on: a superb illustration by Leon Bakst, early twentieth century costume designer and a point of reference for Erdem this season.

Leon’s most famous work was for the collaborative phenomenon that was the Ballets Russes; and in one production alone, such as 1910’s Firebird (above) audiences could be inspired by the likes of Bakst, Stravinsky, Marc Chagall and some of the world’s top dancers such as Nijinsky.

Incidentally, 2009 marks one hundred years since the Russian Ballet first took Paris by storm. Watch out for a major V&A retrospective next year.
