England beat Pakistan by 354 runs to win the first Test on the fourth day at Trent Bridge which gives them a 1-0 lead in the four test series.

James Anderson finished the match with career best figures of 11-71.

England Captain Andrew Strauss said he was very proud of his team, adding: “Our bowling was first class on a wicket that helped a lot and we’re very happy, but we’re conscious that this is the first match of a four-match series.”

Pakistan captain Salman Butt said his team were disappointed by the result but admitted his side were easily beaten saying: “”We need better fielding and for the third and fourth bowlers to support the seamers, but the same thing happened in the first Test (against Australia) and the second (Test) we won.”
