t5m’s presenter Bella Crane walks around Art London with Interior designer Tara Bernerd, advising on buying art that you love and works with your home.
With prices ranging from a few hundred to half a million pounds, plenty of red dot stickers appeared over the course of the show, with a noticeable flurry of purchases and champagne-induced sales on the preview party night! However, more importantly, Art London provided a welcoming environment for people to observe art at their leisure, interact with gallery proprietors, pose queries they have always felt a little shy to previously ask and the opportunity to refine their tastes and discover new styles
Yes, there was a Damien Hirst, a Miro, a Henry Moore and a Picasso but there was also a wealth of fresh international works which challenged and inspired many. Strolling around the show with interior architect and designer Tara Bernard provided the opportunity to chat about many of these pieces and discover how they would work in your home.
She also gave tips on framing, lighting and of course the buying process, echoing similar sentiments to many of the experts that we spoke to at the fair – buying art is an intensely personal journey but it’s hard to go wrong when you’re buying something that you love.
Check the new Art London channel for interviews with these gallerists and artists, a walk round with Tara Bernerd as well as chats with the collectors and characters at the private view.

“Art is what you do when your not surviving”
Art to enhance your space, must transcend art for fashion purposes in real terms right? or is the desire of every art owner, the desire furnish his living space with heartful art…….. in hope it may all one day be worth a fortune one day.
Is this the defining similarity between the music collector and the artful approach to home furnishings?….. i think so yes.
It’s an artful gamble of personal decision – if not – then when it matters it wont be worth shit. x
“music is the true ambiguity of art”
