Adele has become a bit of an office favourite here, and we’re not alone– her so-called ‘heartbroken soul’ snared her a Mercury nomination for her album 19, the first Critics’ Choice Award at the BRITs and two Grammys in February this year. And we aren’t the only ones who are impressed – Adele will also be gracing the hallowed pages of Vogue later this year.
Adele is part of the MySpace alumni – using her page to share her Ella Fitzgerald/Etta James inspired music, until she was finally snapped up by independent label XL Recordings, home to The White Stripes and Dizzee Rascal and released ‘Chasing Pavements’. From there she saw her album sell 1.2million copies worldwide and performed to 17million people when she appeared with Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live – all pretty impressive for a girl who used to perform as the Spice Girls at dinner parties and wear a Slipknot hoodie.
And she shows no sign of slowing down; this year sees Adele duetting with X-Factor finalist Laura White and Will Young, as well as completing her second album. It seems like Adele is the best thing to come out of Enfield in a long time.
