As summer is whistling past us the thought of autumn is beginning to look quite bleek. Yet some truly exciting news hits the headlines as fashion emporium Comme de Garcons announces its collaboration with Daphne Guinness, fashion’s very own Cruella de Vil, in the form of an exclusively created fragrance. t5m’s Angelica Hermon sniffs around…
After many tests and experiments, Daphne Guinness is said to have recently perfected her signature scent, which is due to be sold in fashionable hot-spots such as Dover Street Market and Barney’s amongst others. When approached by C de G’s creative director Adrian Joffe, Guinness felt hugely overwhelmed and honoured, but was also fearful of the whole technical aspect of making a perfume.
“When you fall in love with people, you actually fall in love with their smell” Guinness remarks, and so it took her a long time to create the ideal essence of ‘Daphne’ for people to fall in love with. The funny contradiction being that so many people are already totally in love with Ms Guinness but are yet to experience her scent sensation!
The unusual fragrance, which embodies Guinness’ colourful nature, mixes hints of tuberose and jasmine, to make it both feminine and nostalgic as well as traditional and typically British, just like it’s creator. Guinness, who described the creation process as “heavenly, but also a huge learning curve”, will be launching it in stores across the world this coming September. Waiting lists for bottles of ‘Daphne’ are unsurprisingly full to the brim, just like my perfume drawer will be this autumn…
