The Samsung Pink Ribbon Celebration raises funds and awareness of breast cancer throughout Europe. This year, ‘Everyone Is Art’, the first giant collaborative artwork created by men and women in Europe to raise awareness of breast cancer was be revealed. This artwork was being created by British artist Samira Harris and will includes the faces of 1,096 men and women in Europe who have been affected by breast cancer.

The website, www.morethantalk.eu is an online, instant community of support and advice created by Samsung, and invites all women to pledge themselves to the fight against cancer.

t5m were at the event held in London, and spoke to some of the stars who turned out to show their support for the cause, including Beverley Knight, Jamelia and Vanessa Feltz as well as Samsung’s head of CSR, Inès van Gennip about their personal experiences with experience, and the importance of companies like Samsung lending their support to such worthwhile causes.

This year’s high tea party was set inside one of Europe’s largest and most luxurious shopping malls – and is followed by a 4 day pop – up store to continue the campaign.

Inès explains how Samsung help to raise funds for the various charities they support through the Samsung Breast Cancer Initiative which was set up last year – and which makes annual grants available for charities. This year, Inès tells us, the Samsung Breast Cancer Initiative is working with 7 charities – and that she is very excited about all of their various projects.

As Samsung is one of the world’s most recognisable brands, Inès  also understands the importance of large conglomerates and organisations getting involved with charities, explaining that Samsung has the power to reach so many people, and it should use this power to promote awareness. Inès also goes on to explain how breast cancer is a particularly relevant cause to Samsung, as women are the ‘cornerstone of the family, and Samsung is a family brand’.

What is particularly unique about this campaign is the inclusion of ‘real women’ who have been affected by breast cancer in one way or another, it was this genuine and authentic experience which Inès  believes enhances the gravitas and accessibility of the campaign.

Vanessa explains how she had held a 3 hour radio show on breast cancer earlier that day, with her first caller on the show thanking Vanessa for saving her life – having listened to Vanessa’s show on breast cancer the year before, and having since been diagnosed, treated and recovered from the disease.

Vanessa tells us of the importance of taking charge of cancer – of being aware and beating the disease – and we couldn’t agree me!

Tina explains how she, like many other women, didn’t realise that the disease can affect all women of all ages - and that it was having young daughters which has encouraged her to get involved in raising awareness in younger women.

Tina tells us that it is ‘never to young’ to start being aware of breast cancer, and also explains how she would like to see schools talking about the ‘dreaded C word’ to educate young women and girls on the disease.

As the MC for the afternoon, Caroline was responsible for ‘keeping things together’ and of course, she did an excellent job as the likes of Vanessa Feltz, Katherine Jenkins and Beverley Knight turned out to lend their support to the pink themed afternoon of tea and cake!

Caroline explains that the event was as much about raising awareness of being ‘breast aware’ as it was about the stories of those touched with cancer – making it a progressive and ‘forward thinking’ event.

Olivia tells us about the history of breast cancer in her family – and how this has heightened her awareness of the disease, as well as motivated her to raise awareness of breast cancer in young women.

Katherine took some time out before performing at the pink themed party to talk to t5m about her personal experience with cancer, having lost her father to lung cancer – and her mother’s work as a nurse screening women for breast cancer.

With her mother involved in this line of work, Katherine has always been careful of being breast aware, but she believes it is very important to help young women understand how to examine themselves, and is hoping that the Samsung Pink Ribbon High Tea will help to do that!

Jamelia tells us about her personal experience with breast cancer, having lost Jade Goody to Ovarian cancer last year – and explains that she has always worked hard to raise awareness of the disease.

Like all of the celebrities in attendance, Jamelia says that if her getting involved at events like the Samsung Pink Ribbon High Tea, then it makes it all worth it; and that she hopes that women all women take care of themselves and become more breast aware.
