Grammy-nominated Rufus Wainwright is true music royalty – a man whose unique, memorable ‘popera’ style will make him a musical legend for generations to come. Having written songs for blockbuster films including Brokeback Mountain and Moulin Rouge, as well as starring in The Aviator and Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveller – Rufus is a true star, renowned for his flamboyant and energetic performances.
Speaking exclusively to t5m, Rufus talks about being born into a musical dynasty; his mother is Canadian folk singer Kate McGarrigle and his father is Loudon Wainwright III, an equally famous singer/songwriter, his ’sheltered’ upbringing away from the bright lights of New York and Los Angeles and, finally, how he struggled to make a name for himself as an unknown artist in New York. And of course, he cannot resist but wax lyrical about one of his favourite artists, Judy Garland.
