Richard Dawkins has today expressed an interest in setting up an ‘Atheist Free School’ following the Government’s plan to allow parents to set up their own schools.

In a webchat with MumsNet, the former Oxford Professor and best-selling author, said he would be very interested in setting up a school, which he would refer to as a ‘free-thinking free school’.

He also revealed that he will be making a documentary about the present education system and the role faith schools play within it.

Toby Young, the author of How To Lose Friends and Alienate People, has also recently expressed an interesting in setting up an independent education ‘institution’ and is leading the West London Free School’s Steering Committee to set up a state funded ‘ independent’ secondary school in West London. In a column in The Telegraph, Toby said he was ‘delighted to read in this morning’s paper that Richard Dawkins is interested in setting up a free school’ and invited Richard to join him on his West London project.
