Last week we had a studio sale to mark the end of one year in our Clerkenwell premises. The lovely Mary from Mary’s Tea Parties provided a huge basket of deeeelicious miniature Bakewell tarts for all the guests and they were a huge hit. Mary specialises in afternoon teas and can provide a delicious selection of snacks for birthdays, baby showers and chilled hen parties. Treats range from cucumber sandwiches to lavender shortbread stacks – totally irresistible! Everything is handmade by Mary in her little kitchen and is delivered to your home, served by professional waitresses and then whisked away, leaving you to play host and delight in cakes!
If you’re confident enough to put on your own spread then there are several companies out there who can provide you with the missing accessory – vintage crockery. The Crockery Cupboard is based in South London and offers a wide range of stunning vintage china glassware available to hire. Outside of London Sugar Junction travel around the North West in Bunty ‘the kitsch caravan’ catering for tea dances and vintage-inspired weddings. The Norfolk-based Pretty Vintage can supply vintage crockery, tableware – even deck chairs – for your special party.
Elton John gave Lady Gaga a full vintage set after she performed at his White Tie & Tiara ball earlier this year, and they make wonderful birthday or wedding presents. There is a pretty selection at Steptoe’s Dog and Everything Stops For Tea. Much better than a boring toaster from John Lewis!
