So, you’re an erotic writer. What made you decide to write erotica rather than anything else?
I don’t think it was ever really a conscious decision. I always wanted to write romance, and sex was an element of that. When I started writing Sleeping with the Past I always had in the back of my mind that I would have to write a sex scene, and I was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to do it. Then I found myself two thousand words into the scene thinking, “Jeez, will you just come already?” It seems I underestimated my capacity for smut.
2. What’s your favourite form of erotica – to read or write?
I’m a romantic, through and through. I love stories with a slow build up to the big moment — be it a kiss or a full-blown love scene — stories that keep me squirming on the edge of my seat in anticipation. I’m not really into sequels (apart from a few select authors); I like to think that when the characters find their resolution, they live happily ever after. (Yes, I am that much of a sap!)
Which erotic authors do you like reading?
I’ve discovered so many great authors since finding eBooks that it’s near impossible for me to pick a favourite, but I have a particular fondness for Syd McGinley’s Dr Fell books, JL Langley’s Tin Star was wonderful, and I really enjoy reading Jourdan Lane, M. Jules Aedin and Jaye Valentine & Reno McLeod.
And when you’re not reading erotica?
I love a good murder mystery, and adore anything by Agatha Christie. When I need a laugh I read PG Wodehouse, and when I just want a little fun escapism I read Janet Evanovich.
What about your own writing? If you were going to recommend that someone buy just one of your stories, which would it be and why?
I should say Hit & Run (gotta pimp the new book!), but I think I would have to choose Sleeping with the Past. Not only is it my only novel to date, but it is the first thing I ever wrote in the m/m genre, and seeing it in print still gives me a little thrill. I will always have a soft spot for this book, even if I write for the next fifty years.
Tell us three odd or quirky things about you.
I’ve read a lot about serial killers.
One of my favourite things to eat is ice cream and cornflakes.
I’m horribly superstitious, particularly about the number 13.
Finally, tell us a little bit about yourself…
I love the colour pink. I love handbags. I especially love pink handbags. Yes, I am a girly girl.
