Doctor Who Series 5, Episode 13 – The Wedding of River Song: A Review

Well, here we are at the end, and as they might say on (*spits*) The X Factor, what an emotional journey it's been.
As if the labyrinthine plots (by Saturday teatime drama standards at least) weren't exhausting enough, there've also been my valiant, but ultimately doomed, attempts to get these reviews up on time. Unfortunately I couldn't even manage it for the season finale, but then I'm actually quite glad that... -
Doctor Who Series 6, Episode 11 – The God Complex: A Review

I should probably stop apologising for these episode reviews being late and just spend the time trying to get them done sooner shouldn't I?
It's particularly bad that I've been falling behind when it's been, for the most part, an excellent series this year (admittedly, it has caused the Guardian to run an article asking if the show's getting too complicated but, as the only bad episodes – the pirate-y one... -
Doctor Who Series 6, Episode 10 – The Girl Who Waited: A Review

Well, that was a surprise. I already voiced my concerns about the trailer for this week's episode looking a bit uninspiringly action-heavy in the previous review, but I forgot to mention that the writer's sole previous credit on Doctor Who was for the season two Age of Steel two-parter – the storyline that well and truly turned the Cybermen from my choice of most creepy Doctor Who monster (seeing clips...

Doctor Who Series 6, Episode 9 – Night Terrors: A Review

I went into this episode with decidedly mixed feelings – the new Who hasn't had the best track records when it comes to modern day domestic drama (remember Fear Her? And I'm not looking forward to the upcoming follow-up to last year's The Lodger), but I quite like Mark Gatiss, even if he was responsible for last year's Daleks-by-numbers episode. The line-up of guest actors didn't really inspire confidence either...

Doctor Who Series 6, Episode 8 – Let’s Kill Hitler: A Review

This mid-season break has really thrown off my timing, hence the lateness of this review (in my defense I'm not one of those 'legitimate' TV critics who get to watch and write about this stuff in advance, I wish I was though as it would mean that I'd be getting paid for coming up with this nonsense). Although it did provide me with the opportunity to blog about a series...

So, that's it until September (I think). While the mid-season break may be a bit annoying, it does at least give me a chance to have a breather and catch up – as these reviews have been getting later and later. And, at least it was an interesting episode to go out on.
Interesting, but probably divisive, as it did involve Moffat taking his frantic storytelling style to a ridiculous extreme.... -

I suppose I'll have to take back some of the things I said about last week's episode then. In other words, I quite liked this week's one, even if it didn't use the opportunity to expand the story further. In fact the more I think about it, I can't actually remember that much in the way of plot developments (and I sat through the episode twice before starting to write...

I suppose, once again, I should start this blog with a couple of apologies. Firstly, despite encouraging you to join in the discussion in the comments section, it turns out that I didn't know how the system worked – so if you posted something there and it didn't turn up, I apologise (I think I'm on top of it now though and if I'm not commenting using the facebook account...

Doctor Who Series 6, Episode 4 – The Doctor’s Wife: A Review

Sorry for the delay in getting this up, unfortunately real life's got in the way a bit this week. Although part of the blame does lie with the episode itself as I did find that I had to watch it a couple of times before starting on this review. And even then, I still found myself struggling for words somewhat – mainly because I wanted to spare you all from...

Doctor Who Series 6, Episode 3 – The Curse of the Black Spot: A Review

After struggling to keep my gushing enthusiasm for last week's episode under control, I find myself with the opposite problem this time. Not that this week's was bad, it just wasn't really much of anything.
I don't think anybody was expecting it to be anything more than a filler episode (although with the series now being split into two shorter blocks of episodes, the presence of filler seems harder to forgive)...
