The Walking Dead Season One, Episode Six – TS-19: A Review

Sorry, these recaps have been getting later and later for some reason. Should the demand be there for reviews for season two then I'll make sure that I'm a lot quicker in getting these up (although as nobody seems to have much of an idea of when season two is going to start it seems a bit premature to be talking of such things now).
Anyway, season finale... It's a shame... -
The Walking Dead Season One, Episode 5 – Wildfire: A Review

Now that's more like it! After all the disappointments, and the almost-but-not-quites of the past few episodes, The Walking Dead finally managed to pull off an episode as good as the pilot. The feeling of tension and paranoia in the air was palpable, and for once the show didn't have to rely on extremely contrived situations to create it (like putting a ridiculously racist in amongst an ethnically diverse group).
Picking up... -
Mad Men Season Four, Episode 13 – Tomorrowland: A Review

So farewell Mad Men, you'll no doubt look much different when we meet again - with Sky having outbid the BBC for you, we'll have to get used to putting up with unwanted ad breaks when you come back next year. But at least we got a cheerful send-off.
At least I think it was a cheerful send-off - it all felt a bit muted and uncertain really (Mad Men's hardly... -
Mad Men Season 4, Episode 12 – Blowing Smoke: A Review

The penultimate episode of the season and all hell is breaking out at SCDP, much like it did about this point in previous seasons. With news about Lucky Strike leaving getting out, the future for the agency is looking increasingly bleak. Although I think we can assume that the agency will survive in some form or another - after all what's the point of a workplace-based show if the characters...

The Walking Dead Season One, Episode Four – Vatos: A Review

So that's why there were barely any zombies in last week's episode - they were saving up all the latex and fake blood for this week's bloodbath!
Written by comic creator Robert Kirkman, episode four finally upped the pace a little as both Rick and his crew and the survivors back at the camp both had their own outbreaks of 'walkers' to deal with (I'm not entirely sure about them referring... -
The Walking Dead Season One Episode Three – Tell it to the Frogs: A Review

For a show about zombies, there wasn't much undead based fun going on in this week's episode. In fact there were a grand total of two scenes featuring the walking dead in this episode - one of which was a continuation of the finale of last week's (at a stretch you could say there were three zombie related bits, as at the camp a couple of kids in the background...

Mad Men Season 4, Episode 11 – Chinese Wall: A Review

It looks like all the plot machinations in last week's episode are already paying off (a surprisingly quick turnaround by Mad Men's standards), and as an added bonus Peggy was back as well this week (apparently the previous episode is the only one not to feature her in it). Well, not much happened with Lane as he was still over in London - but he was included in events thanks...

The Walking Dead Season One, Episode Two – Guts: A Review

A bit of a mis-step this time after last week's strong opening. Sadly Darabont seemed more keen to get the plot in motion this episode rather than allow us to wallow in the atmosphere some more, providing more opportunities to draw comparisons with other zombie movies (I was reminded of Dawn of the Dead, what with the shop-based setting, and 28 Days Later with the survivors taking on the zombies while dressed in riot...

Mad Men Season 4, Episode 10 – Hands and Knees: A Review

After last week's morbid hi-jinx, it was time for a much more plot driven episode of Mad Men, especially as we're rapidly approaching the end of the season and the finale's events need to be set in motion. The odd thing about Mad Men is that the more eventful an episode is, the less interesting it is to write about and analyse - it may bore some viewers rigid but...

The Walking Dead Season One, Episode One – Days Gone Bye: A Review

Now that this series of Mad Men is winding down to a close, and that the next one of Doctor Who is still pretty far off, I thought I’d turn my attention to what has been, in some circles at least, one of the most eagerly anticipated TV shows of the year – Shawshank Redemption/Green Mile director Frank Darabont’s adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s ongoing zombie comic, The Walking Dead. Like...
