I overheard two fashion editors yesterday, when coming out of the Betty Jackson show at London Fashion Week: “Beautiful hair, gorgeous make-up and a size 6 –does it really matter what they were wearing? They all looked fabulous!” they said.

And they did look fabulous. A 1940s austere-feel inspired the look, but it was all about glamour. For the hair, waved and side-parted locks combined the ultra groomed ‘mad men’ vibe with a beach sexy-wind-swept feel. Tongs were used lightly creating big curls and plenty of texture, which brought the look up to date. And the make-up was also a classic with a twist. Vibrant emerald green eye shadow was worn over the eyelid but in a thick line rather than covering the eye in a more diffused traditional way, creating a very chic and dramatic strong line.

The clothes were beautiful, reminiscent of a 40s silhouette and using a colour palette of taupes and khakis with accents of fuchsia pink, lime, turquoise and some maritime prints. It exuded Jackson’s classic elegance and flair.

The hair team was headed by Samantha Hillerby, and the make up by Sam Bryant.
