At 15, Kenny went to the Manchester Youth Theatre, an offshot of the National Youth Theatre. It was a summer school for kids aged between 15-21 and it was run by professional directors. It was the first time he realised that he could be a professional actor, and he was told by the mentors that he should go to drama school . Whereas, when he told the careers advisor at Barnsley that he wanted to be an actor, she handed him a media studies prospective, proving that they had no clue about acting.

Summer school was for six weeks, and he stayed in university halls of residence and they were split into different production groups. He quickly realised that these six weeks were not just about acting, but they were about discovering who you are, he told t5m.
