Selfridge’s windows have drawn crowds for years with their attractive and extravagant displays, but never has a department store window been more shocking or entertaining than the collection of explicit quilts on display at Liberty’s.

The five quilts, presented in the front windows at the London department store, with suggestive names such as ‘Hot Lunch’ and ‘Male Service’ provide shoppers passing by the Great Marlborough branch with a display that is eye catching for all the wrong reasons.

It seems the days when quilting was something only your granny would do have been and gone, and now quilts are cool thanks to Liberty who created the display to promote the launch of their new quilting fabrics- Quilty Pleasures, and to advertise the V and A museum’s upcoming exhibit of quilts past and present. It’s obviously working, as the V and A has announced they have sold more advance tickets to the exhibit, which runs from April until July, than any other in recent years.

The quilts, designed by Liberty’s head of visual merchandising Maxine Groucutt, will be on display until 11 April after which they will go on sale at the department store and carry a price tag of around £2,500-£3,000.
