The up and coming collections of tomorrow’s designers were showcased at the Untold season VII show on Monday night (20 September).

The off schedule London Fashion Week event, Spring/Summer 2011, which has been part of fashion week for three seasons, provided a platform for new and emerging talent with inspiring collections from six designers.

Tila and Mila Popovic of RE8 opened the show with their Haute Couture line bringing together natural fabrics and recycled materials. Black lace featured prominently in the collection along with their signature visors and head pieces. Stand out pieces included a PVC flamboyant gold top, a transparent patterned dress and the use of ruffles.

In contrast designer Eki Orleans’ collection of fused vibrant prints against silk brightened up the catwalk. Her use of pattern and a colour palette of ocean blue, coral, pink and golden yellow conjured up images of a hot summer day, along with her maxi and mini dresses.

This feeling was also captured by Ricardo Ramos in his De Leon line, which was the highlight of the show. Berlin based Ramos said he was inspired by ‘magical and mysterious India’ for his S/S 11 collection. Prominent pieces included Ramos’ reinvented sari, with women wearing panelled knee length kaftans in gold and jewel colours, and men light weight shirts teamed with loose bottoms in cool colours, complimented with beaded ethnic necklaces. To follow were designs based on the traditional red Indian’s costume, with necklaces and belts suggestive of the superstitious dream catcher and barely there tops and pants.

Designer Jasmine Howard-Evans’ collection was also one that stood out with her old meets new designs. Inspired by 1940s utility wear, models sauntered down the catwalk in metallic striped tops teamed with pastel harems and a futuristic silver shift dress, wearing antique cameras around their necks or carrying vintage leather suitcases.

Accessories were also key in Karla Sabina’s line, with her stand out heart shaped evening bags against slinky black cocktail dresses, and chokers adorned with medallions, jewels and embellishment.
