I shunned the Pope’s visit this weekend and indulged in the ultimate treat for choco-holics with a chocolate massage at the So Spa based in London’s Sofitel hotel, and it couldn’t have come any sooner what with the cold autumn weather approaching.
Being a massage virgin I was slightly nervous but my fears soon disappeared on entering the luxurious French spa where I was greeted with purifying jasmine and honey tea. A stark reminder that after a heavy summer my body is in much need of a detox.
After being given the choice of either a chocolate body wrap or a chocolate massage, I choose the latter; I was invited into the treatment room and asked to face lie down on a bed, which was even comfier than my own. My masseuse began the massage by spraying a refreshing scented spray over my body before tackling the knots in my neck and back using a special chocolate lotion, which was surprisingly relaxing and beneficial.
Twenty minutes later, and after nearly falling asleep and drooling into the head-rest, my masseuse washed off the remaining lotion using a hot flannel and towel and applied pressure across my entire body.
Feeling so relaxed and de-stressed I found it really hard to drag myself up off the cushioned bed and return to reception, the offer of a herbal tea and selection of dried fruits did make it slightly easier. However the worst part was having to face the long journey home on the tube, which led me to book my next massage.
