I had barely swallowed my last bite of Thanksgiving turkey before a barrage of Christmas party invites from around the world started arriving via cyber and snail mail. Call me old fashioned, but I do still give more credence and serious consideration to the hand written variety that arrive with a stamp! I detest mass mailings on facebook.

Effective, but so tacky.

I find it quite flattering that I’m still invited to everything (including the opening of an envelope) now that I am entering into my second half century. My jet setter wings were long ago clipped, and the Manolo’s given away!

Francesca Thyssen’s invites to various extravagant “do’s in Vienna were most tempting. It was with regret that I had to R.S.V.P. “no”. The same goes for saying no to a multitude of soirees in London (although with Tatjana arriving here imminently, and my disdain for wet and dreary English winters… not quite as hard as it might normally be).

However, there seem to be some unusually interesting, or at least different, celebrations to be had right here in sunny California (which often feels so incongruous to the season). Apart from the usual array of holiday cocktail parties from Malibu to Los Feliz, celebrity stylist George Blodwell is having an Eco-Alliance “blue movement” party on his new waterless lawn, fashion designer Julia Clancey is having a Christmas boat parade party at her Marina Del Rey digs, Hustler Hollywood is throwing a ‘Drugs, Sex, and Rock-n-Roll’ event with featured guest, Love Junkie’s Rachel Resnik, and DJ extraordinaire, Samantha Phillips, is inviting friends to take a break at her Beauty Boot Camp Holiday Rescue Spa Retreat, (and that is all in week 1… 3 more to go). Hmmmmmm, ’tis the season to be jolly! Once a party girl at heart, always a party girl at heart? Well, certainly always game for spa treatments!

Wishing everyone a Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, and Cool Yule!
